Belgian Congo (now Congo Democratic Republic) was ruled by King Leopold II of Belgium after the Berlin conference of 1885 which awarded the area to him, he ruled it until his death in 1909, the country was ruled by Belgium until it gained it's independence in 1960. 

this was the first note issued for the country, Printed in 1896 by W&S (Waterlow & Sons Ltd) England, this issued note with signatures and serial numbers is a rarity, we are pleased to offer it up for sale.
